Simplify osteoporosis screenings with our in-home program
July 2, 2026

This article is for primary care providers who order bone mineral density (BMD) tests for Medicare Advantage patients
Please share with your authorization department

If your Medicare Advantage patient had a fracture in the past six months, our Mobile Screening Team may reach out to facilitate an in-home bone mineral density test. This convenient option is at no cost for members, with appointments scheduled within weeks.

We often hear that scheduling BMDs can take several months and have created this program to help reconnect our members to regular screenings. Our Mobile Screening Program started in 2025 and screened over 100 patients in the first year.

Why use this program?

  • It’s convenient. This in-home service is a convenient option for your patients, with appointments scheduled within weeks.
  • It helps close gaps in care. This efficiently helps you assess bone density and screen members that may have a hard time accessing or attending traditional DEXA screenings after a fracture.
  • It’s simple. We handle the scheduling and the screening—you get the results.

How does it work?

  • We identify eligible members: Our team will fax a Bone Mineral Density Order Form to your office along with information on members who are eligible.
  • You approve the order: Simply complete the form and fax it back to 1-617-246-3071.
  • We complete the screening: A nurse will schedule and perform an ultrasound bone densitometry scan at the patient’s home.
  • Get the results: Results will be faxed to the ordering provider and mailed to the patient with next steps. Please follow up with your patient to discuss results.

Who’s eligible for this program? Female Medicare Advantage members ages 67 to 85 who:

  • Have had a fracture in the last six months
  • Have not had a bone mineral density scan in the last two years
  • Have not had a prescription for an osteoporosis medication in the last year

If you have a patient that you think may be a good fit for this program, please reach out to our Mobile Screening Team at 1-888-376-0644.  Our Engagement Specialists can check eligibility and start the process for any identified members.

Note: Ultrasound bone densitometry (Quantitative Ultrasound [QUS]) offers a convenient and affordable screening option to identify patients with a low likelihood of osteoporosis. Please note that while QUS is an effective preliminary risk-assessment tool, it does not replace a diagnostic DEXA scan, which remains a fully covered benefit.
