This article is for the community mental health centers, mental health providers, hospitals and facilities, opioid treatment providers, acute care hospitals, and primary care physicians caring for our members
In January 2023, the Executive Office of Health and Human Services designated a network of Community Behavioral Health Centers (CBHCs) to serve as regional hubs of coordinated and integrated mental health and substance use disorder treatment for the Commonwealth. These designated hubs offer emergency services in community-based settings as an alternative to emergency departments and urgent care centers.
Twenty of our participating providers (representing 30 practice locations) have been designated as Community Behavioral Health Centers. Consistent with the Division of Insurance guidelines, we will cover and reimburse emergency services rendered by these designated providers, retroactive to June 22, 2023:

We will provide additional information to those participating providers designated as Community Behavioral Health Centers. This information will include specific details about your provider contract with us as well as billing guidelines to ensure accurate payment for these emergency services.
