How to get credentialed
Step Log onto the CAQH Provider Data Portal website
You’ll need to either:
  • Update your information and authorize Blue Cross to access your information, or
  • Register, complete the Integrated Massachusetts Application (IMA), and submit your documents

Here’s how:

  • Go to the CAQH Provider Data Portal
  • Create your password (if you don’t already have one)
  • Click Complete/Update application
  • Enter your information
  • Choose the option to authorize all healthcare organizations to access your information
  • Provide the supporting documentation indicated. If you are affiliated with a hospital, a hospital letter from your primary hospital is requested. The hospital letter must be received before the application can be considered complete. This is one of the most common causes of delay to the credentialing process.

Advanced Practice nurses: Please indicate your collaborating or supervising physician's name on the detail screen and include a copy of your certification. This is another common cause of delays to the credentialing process.

Every 120 days, you will receive a reminder from the CAQH to review your data, update any expired information, and reattest to your information. This ensures your data is current and up-to-date when health plans access data for recredentialing purposes.

Step Get your credentialing decision
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts makes independent decisions about credentialing. To do this, our Credentials Committee reviews an applicant’s credentials to determine if they meet our Professional Credentialing and Recredentialing Requirements. You will be notified of the initial credentialing decision. If you are credentialed, we will send you a welcome letter that states the effective date of your contractual participation with us.
Recredentialing

Review your information in the CAQH Provider Data Portal

You must recredential every two years at the time of your birthday. The recredentialing cycle depends on whether you were born in an odd or even year. For example, if your date of birth is May 15, 1990 (an even year) and you were first credentialed in May of 2023, your recredentialing would be due in May of 2024 because 2024 is an even year. Your next recredentialing application would be due in May 2026 and every two years thereafter.

To recredential, review your information in CAQH and then re-attest to its accuracy. Be sure to update all expired information.

Our Credentials Committee reviews the information that you provide to CAQH. If we have questions about your recredentialing information, we will contact you. Otherwise, you will not receive any further communication from us about your recredentialing.

The leading causes of incomplete recredentialing applications is the absence of current malpractice insurance information; be sure to review this information when re-attesting.
