Federal Employee Program

Federal and postal employees and their retirees have a choice of two Blue Cross and Blue Shield medical plans:

Standard Option
Federal and postal employees and their retirees in this medical plan have some coverage for clinical oral evaluations, diagnostic imaging, palliative treatment, and preventive procedures. The Standard Option is primarily a medical plan and is not intended to provide full dental benefits.

Basic Option
Like the Standard Option, this is a medical plan that includes some limited dental benefits. Federal and postal employees and their retirees enrolled in Basic Option have coverage for exams, cleanings, X-rays, and sealants for children up to age 16. There is a $30 copay for the evaluation, which is waived if the member has Medicare Part B. Services under Basic Option are covered only when rendered by Dental Blue dentists.

We now limit the dental diagnostic imaging benefit to intraoral complete series.

FEP Blue Focus
Dental care is not a benefit.

FEP BlueDental®
Through the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA), we offer FEP BlueDental. The FEP BlueDental plan uses the nationwide dental network called the GRID. If you are a Dental Blue provider participating in the GRID, your reimbursement for services provided to these members will be at your Dental Blue contracted rate.

Use the Dental Office Implementation Guide() to learn:
