August 1, 2023

This article is for all providers and facilities caring for our members

For dates of service on or after September 1, 2023, Blue Cross will no longer reimburse specimen collection procedure code 99001. This code was temporarily reimbursed during the COVID-19 federal Public Health Emergency. Additionally, as of May 12, 2023, specimen collection procedure codes G2023 and G2024 are deleted codes and are no longer reimbursed.

These updates align with both the expiration of the COVID-19 federal Public Health Emergency and Blue Cross payment policies prior to COVID-19.
