This article is for health care providers who bill for seasonal immunizations (flu, RSV, COVID-19 and others)
With cold and flu season upon us, we are encouraging our members to get the appropriate vaccines they need to help them stay healthy. But navigating vaccine choices today has become more complex with the addition of the COVID-19 virus and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and the different vaccines available for each virus.
“In the fall we had simpler decisions to make in years past, before the pandemic,” says Dr. Adam Licurse, a primary care physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and senior medical director for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts. “We’ve gone from, do I get the flu vaccine to, which flu, COVID and RSV vaccine should I get? When and where? And can I get them all at once?”
Like most physicians, scientists, and public health officials, Licurse strongly recommends people get vaccinated for all three viruses.
Read more in this Coverage article about Licurse’s recommendations on how to help patients overcome "vaccine fatigue."
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts coverage complies with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's vaccine-specific recommendations.
Immunizations are covered at no cost to most of our members when administered by an in-network provider. We recommend that you always check member benefits and eligibility before performing services.
