Mail service pharmacy to suspend filling some GLP-1 meds
May 9, 2024

This article is for prescribers of GLP-1 medications (Mounjaro, Saxenda, Trulicity, and Wegovy)

Due to supply constraints, CVS Caremark Mail Service Pharmacy has notified us that, as of May 15, 2024, they will no longer have the inventory to dispense the GLP-1 medications listed below. Members may fill prescriptions for these medications at in-network retail pharmacies, where available, and pay their retail cost share for the medication.

The demand for GLP-1 medications continues to rise and these brands are experiencing ongoing, widespread supply issues.

Which medications?

All dosages of the following supply-constrained medications cannot be filled by CVS Caremark Mail Service Pharmacy as of May 15:

  • Mounjaro
  • Saxenda
  • Trulicity
  • Wegovy

Impact to members and prescribers

After May 15, CVS Caremark Mail Service Pharmacy will notify members and prescribers who try to fill prescriptions for these medications that the order cannot be filled.

Members who previously filled these prescriptions may receive proactive communications, including alternative options. CVS Caremark Mail Service Pharmacy will help members to transfer the prescription to an in-network participating retail pharmacy as needed. Members can sign in to MyBlue at bluecrossma.org to use the Pharmacy Locator tool or call Member Service at the number on their ID card to find a participating pharmacy.

What’s next?

CVS Caremark Mail Service Pharmacy will continue to monitor the situation to determine if they can stock these and other GLP-1 medications in the future, based on the manufacturers’ ability to meet demand.
