Announcing a new Medex Choice® Medigap plan
November 3, 2014

Effective December 1, 2014 you may begin to see patients who are members of our new Medex plan called Medex Choice, a Medicare supplement plan from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts HMO Blue®, a wholly controlled subsidiary of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts.

Medex Choice is available to Medicare beneficiaries in Massachusetts. We will continue to offer our Medex Bronze and Medex Core plans. You can identify Medex Choice members by the “XXB” prefix on their ID card.

Medex Choice is a Medicare Select plan with an HMO network. When a member chooses a “Choice PCP” from a subset of HMO Blue network providers and adheres to HMO network referral rules, they will receive enhanced Medicare supplement benefits with reduced cost-share. Members may also choose any other PCP or self-refer for care and pay more out-of-pocket.

Medex Choice is aligned with the goal of managing Medicare costs using an integrated care model that provides incentives for high-quality, cost-effective care.

Medex Choice network organizations
The Medex Choice benefit design requires the member to choose a PCP from the HMO Blue network in order to receive Medigap benefits. The following is a list of the Medex Choice network organizations from which members can choose a “Choice PCP”:

  • Accountable Care Associates
  • Atrius Health, including Dedham Medical Associates, Granite Medical Group, Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates
