Member ID cards
We issue each member their own ID card. The cards contain information that you need to better understand the member’s plan, like their network and whether they have pharmacy benefits with us. Our Member ID Card Quick Tip* provides a snapshot of what to look for on the card. Each time a member visits, we recommend that you perform an eligibility check to ensure the ID number is active. It is also important to:
- Always ask all of your Blue Cross Blue Shield members, both local and out-of-state, for their most current ID card.
- Photocopy the front and back of the card for your files and pass this key information on to your billing staff.
*Note:
- Medicare Advantage members have separate prescription plan ID cards along with their member ID cards.
- Federal Employee Program Member cards begin with an “R” followed by eight numbers. Other plans may have different alpha/numeric combinations.
