BlueCard® ID update: No more suitcase logo
October 24, 2025

This article is for all medical providers caring for our BlueCard members

Effective immediately, Blue plans will gradually remove the suitcase logo on BlueCard® members’ ID cards and instead, feature only the product indicator.

Here is a list of some of the product indicators you may see on new ID cards:

  • PPO - for eligible PPO or EPO members
  • HMO
  • POS
  • BlueHPN (Blue High Performance Network)
  • PPO B
  • TRAD
  • MA PPO or Medicare Advantage PPO
  • MA HMO or Medicare Advantage HMO

The sample ID card below shows the three-letter “PPO” acronym as the identifier without the suitcase.

Member ID card sample

Blue plans are phasing in this ID card change as members renew their health plan coverage. You may continue to see the suitcase logo on cards for a while.

What this means for your office

  • Don’t rely on the suitcase logo to identify the members’ plan as a BlueCard plan.
  • Continue to follow the normal process to verify member benefits and eligibility and submit claims.
  • Member benefits and network access remains unchanged.
