In-home colorectal cancer screening kits

This article is for health care providers who care for our Medicare Advantage members.

Starting in September 2018, we will pilot a program with Quest DiagnosticsTM to deliver in-home colorectal cancer screening kits to your Medicare Advantage patients who appear to be overdue for this screening based on our claims data.

Who is eligible?
Selected Blue Cross Medicare Advantage patients ages 50 to 75 are eligible for this pilot. We identified these patients using the HEDIS measure for colorectal cancer screening in the CMS 5-star rating system.

How does it work?
The InSure® ONE™ Collection Kit contains everything patients need to collect and submit their test sample for analysis. This kit is the only water-based collection kit that uses the method of two samples on a single card. The sample is collected in the privacy of a patient’s home. There are no dietary or medication restrictions.

How long does the program last?
The program will run for three months, kits must be mailed back by November 30, 2018. We will recommend all patients follow-up with their primary care provider.

What are the details?

  • The specimens are tested within 48 hours of receipt in the lab.
  • Quest Diagnostics will contact patients who have positive test results by phone to encourage the patient to make an appointment with their doctor.
  • Participants will receive the results from Quest Diagnostics in the mail within 3 weeks, and they will be available on the Quest Diagnostics portal within 7-10 days.
  • Providers will receive the results if they have been identified by Blue Cross as a patient’s primary care provider.
