After Hours Support

Your practice or organization may already provide back-up care options for patients who have questions or require medical attention beyond normal business hours—but if not, you may suggest these options to Blue Cross members.

  • Blue Care Line® (24/7 nurse line). Members can call 1-888-247-2583 to speak with a registered nurse who will help them determine the appropriate level of care. Patients explain their situation, detail their symptoms, and our nurses advise them on whether to see their doctor, go to the emergency room, or care for themselves at home.

  • Federal Employee Program Nurse Line. Federal Employee Program members also have a 24/7 nurse line and can call it at 1-888-258-3432.

  • Limited Services Clinics (LSCs). These retail-based clinics, such as CVS MinuteClinic®, are open seven days a week to treat non-urgent symptoms that cause patients discomfort. Some examples of symptoms treated in this setting are flu, earache, conjunctivitis, rash and sore throat. These clinics can also administer many common vaccines for adults and children.

  • Freestanding Urgent Care Centers (UCCs). These centers offer evening and weekend hours and treat non-life-threatening issues and minor illnesses like those treated in limited service clinics. UCCs can care for sprains, minor burns, and simple fractures or lacerations. Most can also offer IV rehydration for patients with gastroenteritis, for example, and many offer onsite radiology.
